DEVICE FOR LEFT ATRIAL APPENDAGE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18598332 titled 'DEVICE FOR LEFT ATRIAL APPENDAGE

The abstract describes a patent application for a left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) device that includes an expandable member capable of adjusting between a minimal diameter and a maximum diameter. The expandable member can move to a deployment diameter that is limited by the dimensions of the left atrial appendage (LAA) in which the device is deployed. A fabric covers part of the expandable member to accommodate changes in diameter.

  • The LAAC device has an expandable member that can be adjusted between a minimal and maximum diameter.
  • The device can move to a deployment diameter limited by the dimensions of the LAA.
  • A fabric covering the expandable member allows for changes in diameter.

Potential Applications: - Medical devices for heart procedures - Cardiology procedures for closing off the left atrial appendage

Problems Solved: - Providing a device that can adjust to the dimensions of the LAA - Ensuring a secure closure of the left atrial appendage

Benefits: - Improved safety and efficacy in heart procedures - Customizable closure based on individual patient anatomy

Commercial Applications: Title: "Innovative LAAC Device for Cardiology Procedures" This technology could be used in hospitals, cardiology clinics, and medical device companies for heart procedures, potentially leading to improved patient outcomes and reduced risks during surgeries.

Prior Art: Readers can explore prior patents related to LAAC devices, expandable medical devices, and fabric-covered medical devices to understand the evolution of this technology.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay informed about the latest advancements in LAAC devices, heart procedures, and fabric technology used in medical devices.

Questions about Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAAC): 1. What are the potential risks associated with LAAC procedures?

  - LAAC procedures may carry risks such as device migration or thrombus formation, which need to be carefully monitored post-surgery.

2. How does the fabric covering on the expandable member contribute to the effectiveness of the LAAC device?

  - The fabric allows for flexibility and adaptability of the device, ensuring a secure closure in the LAA.

Original Abstract Submitted

A left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) device includes an expandable member that defines a profile of the LAAC device and is moveable between a minimal diameter and a maximum diameter, the expandable member adapted to move to a deployment diameter that is intermediate the minimal diameter and the maximum diameter and that is limited by dimensions of a left atrial appendage (LAA) in which the LAAC device is deployed. A fabric extends over at least a portion of the expandable member and is adapted to accommodate changes in the expandable member between the minimal diameter and the increased diameter.
