REPAIRING WELLBORES WITH FLUID MOVEMENT BEHIND CASING - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18585910 titled 'REPAIRING WELLBORES WITH FLUID MOVEMENT BEHIND CASING
Simplified Explanation
A section of casing within a wellbore is milled, underreamed, and filled with a setting fluid before a scab liner is installed to secure the section within the wellbore.
Key Features and Innovation
- Milling and underreaming of a section of the wellbore to expose micro-channels.
- Squeezing setting fluid into the section to penetrate the micro-channels.
- Installation of a scab liner over the section to secure it within the wellbore.
Potential Applications
This technology can be used in oil and gas wellbore operations to repair damaged casing sections and ensure well integrity.
Problems Solved
This technology addresses the issue of damaged casing sections within wellbores, providing a solution to maintain the structural integrity of the well.
Benefits
- Enhanced wellbore integrity.
- Improved casing repair capabilities.

Questions about Wellbore Casing Repair Technology
How does this technology improve wellbore integrity?
This technology enhances wellbore integrity by effectively repairing damaged casing sections and securing them within the wellbore, preventing potential failures.
What are the key steps involved in implementing this technology?
The key steps include milling and underreaming the damaged casing section, filling it with a setting fluid, and installing a scab liner to secure it within the wellbore.
Original Abstract Submitted
A section of casing within a wellbore is milled. After milling the section of the wellbore, the section of the wellbore is underreamed through to a next layer of casing. A setting fluid is squeezed into the section. The setting fluid penetrates micro-channels exposed by the milling and underreaming A scab liner is installed over the section. The scab liner is secured within the wellbore.
