Biological Indicator with Adjusted Resistance Characteristics - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18569525 titled 'Biological Indicator with Adjusted Resistance Characteristics
The abstract describes a biological sterilization indicator (BI) that includes a housing, a container, a first chamber, a second chamber with a source of biological activity, and a substrate positioned between the chambers.
- The BI includes a hydrophobic nonporous film substrate with an aperture to control fluid flow between the chambers.
- The substrate is not in direct contact with the source of biological activity, ensuring accurate sterilization monitoring.
- The substrate extends around the inner perimeter of the housing, providing comprehensive coverage.
- The BI is designed to accurately indicate sterilization levels in a biological environment.
- The innovative design of the BI allows for efficient and reliable sterilization monitoring.
Potential Applications: - Medical facilities - Pharmaceutical manufacturing - Laboratory settings - Sterilization validation processes
Problems Solved: - Accurate monitoring of sterilization processes - Ensuring biological safety in controlled environments
Benefits: - Enhanced sterilization monitoring - Increased efficiency in sterilization validation - Improved biological safety measures
Commercial Applications: - Medical device manufacturing - Pharmaceutical production - Research laboratories - Sterilization service providers
Questions about the technology: 1. How does the BI ensure accurate sterilization monitoring? 2. What are the potential applications of this technology in different industries?
Frequently Updated Research: - Ongoing studies on the effectiveness of the BI in various sterilization processes.
Original Abstract Submitted
A biological sterilization indicator (BI) is provided. The BI can include a housing, and a container positioned in the housing. The BI can further include a first chamber, and a second chamber with a source of biological activity disposed therein. The BI can further include a substrate positioned in the housing between the first chamber and the second chamber. The substrate can be positioned in fluid communication with the first chamber and the second chamber, and the substrate can be further positioned such that the substrate is not in direct contact with the source of biological activity. The substrate can comprise a hydrophobic nonporous film having an aperture. The substrate and the aperture are dimensioned to control fluid flow between the first compartment and the second compartment. The substrate can extend around substantially the entire inner perimeter of the housing between the first compartment and the second compartment.
