DETERMINISTIC NETWORK ENTITY FOR COMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18559105 titled 'DETERMINISTIC NETWORK ENTITY FOR COMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS
The method described in the abstract is for enabling Internet Protocol (IP) based deterministic networking by a network node in a communications network. The node receives routing requests from a Software-Defined Networking (SDN) controller associated with a Deterministic Network (DetNet), checks for conflicts with the network's routing, and responds to the controller indicating acceptance or denial of the request. This method can be performed by a Deterministic Networking Application Function (DetNet AF).
- Enables IP-based deterministic networking
- Receives routing requests from an SDN controller associated with DetNet
- Checks for conflicts with the network's routing
- Responds to the controller indicating acceptance or denial of the request
- Can be performed by a DetNet AF
Potential Applications: - Enhancing network performance and reliability - Improving Quality of Service (QoS) for critical applications - Facilitating real-time communication in industrial automation and smart grids
Problems Solved: - Ensuring deterministic behavior in network communication - Managing network traffic efficiently - Enhancing network security and reliability
Benefits: - Increased network predictability - Improved Quality of Service (QoS) - Enhanced network performance and reliability
Commercial Applications: Title: "Enhancing Network Performance with IP-Based Deterministic Networking" This technology can be utilized in industries such as telecommunications, transportation, and healthcare to ensure reliable and secure communication for critical applications. It can also be integrated into smart city infrastructure for efficient data transmission and real-time monitoring.
Questions about IP-Based Deterministic Networking: 1. How does IP-based deterministic networking differ from traditional networking approaches? IP-based deterministic networking ensures predictable and reliable communication by prioritizing critical traffic and minimizing latency, unlike traditional networks that may experience delays and packet loss. 2. What are the key advantages of implementing deterministic networking in industrial automation? Deterministic networking in industrial automation ensures real-time communication for control systems, enabling precise coordination of processes and reducing the risk of disruptions.
Original Abstract Submitted
A method performed by a network node of a communications network for enabling internet protocol, IP, based deterministic networking. The method comprises receiving a routing request from a software-defined networking (SDN) controller, particularly wherein the SDN controller is associated with a deterministic network (DetNet); determining whether the routing request conflicts with the routing of the communications network; and responsive to determining whether the routing request conflicts with the routing of the communications network, transmitting a response to the SDN controller indicating acceptance or denial of the routing request. The network node may be a Deterministic Networking Application Function (DetNet AF).
