A display substrate and a display apparatus are provided. In the display substrate, the pixel definition layer defines opening regions of a plurality of sub-pixels; two adjacent sub-pixels are respectively an upper sub-pixel and a lower sub-pixel; the first electrode of the upper sub-pixel has a first edge close to the lower sub-pixel and a second edge intersecting with the first edge; the opening region of the upper sub-pixel has a first edge close to the lower sub-pixel and a second edge intersecting with the first edge; the distance between the first edge of the first electrode of the upper sub-pixel and the first edge of the opening region of the upper sub-pixel is greater than the distance between the second edge of the first electrode of the upper sub-pixel and the second edge of the opening region of the upper sub-pixel.
