APPARATUS, METHOD, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18442064 titled 'APPARATUS, METHOD, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a method, computer program, and apparatus for managing timing advance values in a wireless communication network.

  • Establishing a connection with a user equipment via a serving cell supported by a first access node.
  • Instructing the user equipment to obtain a timing advance value for a target cell supported by a second access node.
  • Receiving an indication from the user equipment that the timing advance value is invalid.
  • Determining whether to instruct the user equipment to obtain a new timing advance value based on the received indication.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Management of timing advance values in a wireless communication network.
  • Dynamic adjustment of timing advance values based on user equipment feedback.
  • Optimization of uplink transmissions to improve network performance.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in various wireless communication networks to enhance the efficiency of uplink transmissions and improve overall network performance.

Problems Solved:

  • Ensuring accurate timing for uplink transmissions.
  • Managing timing advance values effectively in a multi-node network.
  • Enhancing user equipment performance in wireless communication systems.

Benefits:

  • Improved network reliability and performance.
  • Enhanced user experience with optimized uplink transmissions.
  • Efficient utilization of network resources.

Commercial Applications: The technology can be utilized by telecommunications companies, network operators, and equipment manufacturers to enhance the performance and reliability of wireless communication networks, leading to improved customer satisfaction and network efficiency.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does this technology improve the efficiency of uplink transmissions in wireless networks? 2. What are the potential implications of dynamic timing advance value adjustments on network performance and user experience?

Original Abstract Submitted

There is provided a method, computer program, and apparatus for causing an apparatus for a first access node to perform: establishing a connection towards a user equipment via a serving cell supported by the first access node; instructing the user equipment to obtain a first timing advance value for a target cell supported by a second access node, wherein the first timing advance value indicates a timing for transmitting uplink transmissions to the target cell; receiving, from the user equipment, an indication that the first timing advance value is or will soon be invalid; and determining whether to instruct the user equipment to obtain a second timing advance value for the target cell in dependence on the received indication, the second timing advance value being obtained later in time than the first timing advance value.
