PLACEMENT TRAY AND RECORDING DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18396436 titled 'PLACEMENT TRAY AND RECORDING DEVICE

Simplified Explanation:

The patent application describes a placement tray that can be moved between open and closed states on a device main body. The tray has a surface for placing a medium, edge guides to keep the medium in place, and a link member for support in the open state. The edge guide includes a movable section that can switch between a reclined non-use posture and an upright use posture, along with an operation section that remains fixed against the placement surface.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Placement tray with movable edge guides for securing a medium in place
  • Link member for supporting the tray in the open state
  • Movable section of the edge guide that switches between use and non-use postures
  • Operation section fixed against the placement surface for stability
  • Positioning of the operation section to overlap the movable section and not the link member

Potential Applications: This technology could be used in various devices where a medium needs to be securely placed and supported, such as printers, scanners, or sorting machines.

Problems Solved: This technology addresses the issue of keeping a medium in place on a placement tray while also providing support in the open state, improving efficiency and accuracy in device operations.

Benefits:

  • Secure placement of medium
  • Support in the open state
  • Improved efficiency and accuracy in device operations

Commercial Applications: This technology could have commercial applications in the manufacturing and printing industries, where precise placement and support of mediums are crucial for operations.

Prior Art: Readers interested in prior art related to this technology could start by researching similar patents in the field of device accessories and components.

Questions about Placement Tray Technology: 1. What are the potential benefits of using a placement tray with movable edge guides? 2. How does the link member contribute to the stability of the placement tray in the open state?

Original Abstract Submitted

A placement tray which is displaceable to a closed state and an open state with respect to a device main body has a placement surface on which a medium is placed, edge guides that restrict side edges of the medium to be placed, and a link member that supports the placement tray in the open state. The edge guide has a movable section that pivotably switches between a non-use posture in which it reclines along the placement surface and a use posture in which it is upright against the placement surface, and an operation section that is fixed in posture against the placement surface and is operated. At least a part of the operation section is provided at a position that overlaps the movable section and does not overlap the link member as viewed from the width direction that intersects the transport direction F of the medium.
