SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR BATTERY MANUFACTURE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18314570 titled 'SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR BATTERY MANUFACTURE

Simplified Explanation:

The patent application describes a method of manufacturing a battery cell using a laser welding device to pre-weld a first member with a current collector before fully welding them together.

  • The method involves emitting a first beam for a short duration to pre-weld the first member with the current collector.
  • Subsequently, a second beam is emitted for a longer duration to fully weld the first member with the current collector.
  • The shorter duration of the first beam ensures a preliminary weld before the final welding process.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Use of a laser welding device for pre-welding and welding battery cell components.
  • Sequential emission of beams for pre-welding and final welding to ensure a secure connection.
  • Optimization of beam durations for efficient manufacturing process.

Potential Applications:

The technology can be applied in the manufacturing of various types of battery cells, including those used in electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and renewable energy storage systems.

Problems Solved:

  • Ensures a strong and reliable connection between the battery cell components.
  • Improves the efficiency and precision of the manufacturing process.
  • Reduces the risk of defects or malfunctions in the battery cell.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced durability and performance of battery cells.
  • Streamlined manufacturing process leading to cost savings.
  • Consistent quality and reliability of the final product.

Commercial Applications:

The technology can be utilized by battery manufacturers, electric vehicle companies, electronics manufacturers, and renewable energy companies to improve the quality and efficiency of their products.

Questions about Laser Welding in Battery Cell Manufacturing:

1. How does the use of laser welding devices improve the manufacturing process of battery cells? 2. What are the specific advantages of pre-welding components before the final welding process in battery cell manufacturing?

Original Abstract Submitted

A method of manufacturing a battery cell is disclosed. The method can include emitting, by a laser welding device for a first duration, a first beam to pre-weld a first member with a current collector. The method can further include emitting, by the laser welding device for a second duration, a second beam to weld the first member with the current collector. The method can include the first duration of the first beam being less than the second duration of the second beam.
