CONNECTOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18290225 titled 'CONNECTOR

The patent application describes a connector with a wire pull-out opening, a terminal, a wire connected to the terminal, a wire holding portion made of synthetic resin, a shield shell made of metal, and a wire pressing portion made of metal.

  • The wire holding portion is designed to hold a projecting part of the wire next to the wire pull-out opening.
  • The shield shell covers the connector housing and is fixed to it.
  • The wire pressing portion is bolt-fastened to the shield shell, sandwiching the wire holding portion between them.
  • The wire pressing portion is oriented in a direction perpendicular to the wire's axial direction.

Potential Applications: This technology can be used in various electrical connectors where secure wire connections are essential.

Problems Solved: This innovation addresses the challenge of securely holding wires in place within a connector housing.

Benefits: Enhanced wire security and stability in connectors, improved durability and reliability of electrical connections.

Commercial Applications: This technology can be applied in industries such as automotive, aerospace, telecommunications, and consumer electronics for reliable wire connections.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the wire holding portion made of synthetic resin enhance the connector's performance? 2. What are the advantages of using a shield shell made of metal in this connector design?

Original Abstract Submitted

A connector is provided with a connector housing including a wire pull-out opening, a terminal accommodated in the connector housing, a wire connected to the terminal and to be pulled out to outside of the connector housing through the wire pull-out opening, a wire holding portion made of synthetic resin and configured to hold a projecting part of the wire by being externally fit to the projecting part adjacent to the wire pull-out opening and projecting outward through the wire pull-out opening, a shield shell made of metal and configured to cover the connector housing by being fixed to the connector housing, and a wire pressing portion made of metal and to be bolt-fastened to the shield shell while sandwiching the wire holding portion between the shield shell and the wire pressing portion in a first direction intersecting an axial direction of the wire.
