THERMOPLASTIC RESIN COMPOSITION AND MOLDED BODY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18271030 titled 'THERMOPLASTIC RESIN COMPOSITION AND MOLDED BODY

The patent application describes a thermoplastic resin composition and a molded article with antifouling properties and good antibacterial activity.

  • The thermoplastic resin composition includes a propylene resin, an ethylene-based copolymer rubber or a copolymer containing monomer units derived from an aromatic vinyl compound and a conjugated diene compound, and a glycerol fatty acid ester.
  • The glycerol fatty acid ester is an ester of a fatty acid with 8 to 14 carbon atoms.

Potential Applications:

  • This technology can be used in the production of molded articles for various industries such as healthcare, food packaging, and marine applications.
  • It can be utilized in the manufacturing of medical devices, food containers, and marine equipment due to its antifouling and antibacterial properties.

Problems Solved:

  • The technology addresses the issue of fouling on surfaces, preventing the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms.
  • It provides a solution for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in various applications where bacterial contamination is a concern.

Benefits:

  • The thermoplastic resin composition offers long-lasting antifouling properties, reducing the need for frequent cleaning and maintenance.
  • The antibacterial activity of the molded articles contributes to a healthier and safer environment in healthcare settings and food storage facilities.

Commercial Applications:

  • "Antifouling Thermoplastic Resin Composition for Healthcare and Food Packaging Industries"

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the glycerol fatty acid ester contribute to the antifouling properties of the thermoplastic resin composition? 2. What are the specific mechanisms by which the copolymer rubber or copolymer with aromatic vinyl compound and conjugated diene compound exhibit antibacterial activity?

Original Abstract Submitted

A thermoplastic resin composition and a molded article having an antifouling property and exhibiting good antibacterial activity against and are provided. A thermoplastic resin composition contains 5 to 95 parts by mass of a propylene resin (A), 5 to 95 parts by mass of at least one selected from the group consisting of an ethylene-based copolymer rubber (B) and a copolymer (B′) containing a monomer unit derived from an aromatic vinyl compound and a monomer unit derived from a conjugated diene compound, and a glycerol fatty acid ester (C), in which (C) is an ester of a fatty acid having 8 to 14 carbon atoms.
