TIGHT IMU-CAMERA COUPLING FOR DYNAMIC BENDING ESTIMATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18184333 titled 'TIGHT IMU-CAMERA COUPLING FOR DYNAMIC BENDING ESTIMATION

Simplified Explanation:

The patent application describes a method for correcting bending of a flexible display device by utilizing sensor groups in an augmented reality (AR) display device. These sensor groups include a combination of a camera, an IMU (inertial measurement unit), and a component that are tightly coupled to each other. The method involves accessing data from the sensor groups, estimating the spatial relationship between them based on the data, and displaying virtual content on the AR display device accordingly.

  • Key Features and Innovation:
   * Formation of sensor groups with tightly coupled camera, IMU, and component.
   * Estimation of spatial relationship between sensor groups based on data.
   * Displaying virtual content on the AR display device based on the estimated spatial relationship.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for correcting bending of a flexible display device is described. The method includes forming a plurality of sensor groups of an augmented reality (AR) display device, where one of the plurality of sensor groups includes a combination of a camera, an IMU (inertial measurement unit), and a component, each being tightly coupled to each other, a spatial relationship between the camera, the IMU sensor, or the component being predefined, accessing sensor groups data from the plurality of sensor groups, estimating a spatial relationship between the plurality of sensor groups based on the sensor groups data, and displaying virtual content in a display of the AR display device based on the spatial relationship between the plurality of sensor groups.
