BROADCASTING VEHICLE CAPABILITIES TO PLANNING MODULES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18149501 titled 'BROADCASTING VEHICLE CAPABILITIES TO PLANNING MODULES

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a system where a vehicle capability broadcaster receives information about the environment in which an autonomous vehicle (AV) may operate. Based on this information, the broadcaster determines different capability parameters for the AV, which are then used by planning modules to plan the vehicle's motions accordingly.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Vehicle capability broadcaster receives environmental information for AV operation.
  • Determines first and second vehicle capability parameters based on the condition.
  • Parameters indicate AV capabilities for different types of motions.
  • Parameters are used by planning modules to plan AV motions.
  • Capabilities can be updated and transmitted to planning modules as needed.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in various industries such as autonomous transportation, logistics, and robotics where precise motion planning is crucial for safe and efficient operations.

Problems Solved: This technology addresses the challenge of adapting AV capabilities based on changing environmental conditions, ensuring safe and effective motion planning in dynamic scenarios.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced safety and efficiency in AV operations.
  • Adaptive motion planning based on real-time environmental data.
  • Improved performance and reliability of autonomous systems.

Commercial Applications: The technology can be utilized in autonomous vehicle fleets, warehouse automation, and industrial robotics to optimize motion planning and enhance overall operational efficiency.

Prior Art: Readers interested in exploring prior art related to this technology may look into research papers, patents, and industry publications on autonomous vehicle capabilities and motion planning systems.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay informed about the latest advancements in autonomous vehicle technologies, motion planning algorithms, and environmental sensing systems to enhance the capabilities of this innovation.

Questions about Autonomous Vehicle Capabilities: 1. How does the vehicle capability broadcaster determine the first and second vehicle capability parameters? 2. What are the potential implications of updating vehicle capability parameters during AV operation?

Original Abstract Submitted

A vehicle capability broadcaster may receive information indicating a condition in an environment where an AV may operate. The vehicle capability broadcaster determines a first vehicle capability parameter and a second vehicle capability parameter based on the condition. The vehicle capability parameters may indicate capabilities of the AV for making different types of motions, e.g., limits of the AV making different motions. The vehicle capability broadcaster may transmit the first vehicle capability parameter to a first planning module and transmit the second vehicle capability parameter to a second planning module. The first planning module and the second planning module may plan one or more motions of the AV in the operation based on the vehicle capability parameters. The vehicle capability broadcaster may update a vehicle capability parameter and transmit the updated vehicle capability parameter to one of the planning modules after the one or more motions are planned.
