A method and system for enabling a user to receive status messages related to an item on a list. The system includes a user computing device in communication with a server computer across a network. The user views a list and identifies any items for which the user wishes to receive the status messages. The user confirms configuration settings for the status messages, including the type and timing of status messages to receive and the form of notification to be used for the status messages. Types of status messages include a pending status, which is sent to the user after a first time period, an overdue status, which is sent to the user after a second time period, and a resolved status, which is sent to the user when the event occurs. Forms of notification include pop-up messages in the system, push notifications, emails and text messages.
