PULSE ILLUMINATION IMAGING OF A TARGET ELEMENT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18141493 titled 'PULSE ILLUMINATION IMAGING OF A TARGET ELEMENT

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a pulse illumination imaging system that includes an image sensor, a light source, and a controller. The system is designed to capture images based on the motion of a target element relative to the image sensor.

  • The system includes an image sensor with light-sensitive pixel elements that can be activated for a designated exposure time to capture images.
  • A controller determines the activation time of the image sensor based on the motion of the target element and activates the image sensor accordingly.
  • The light source is activated during the exposure time of the image sensor to produce a pulse with a preconfigured time duration that is shorter than the exposure time.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Image sensor with light-sensitive pixel elements
  • Controller to determine activation time based on motion
  • Light source activation during exposure time to produce pulse

Potential Applications:

  • High-speed photography
  • Motion capture
  • Surveillance systems

Problems Solved:

  • Capturing clear images of fast-moving objects
  • Ensuring proper exposure in dynamic environments

Benefits:

  • Improved image quality
  • Accurate motion tracking
  • Enhanced surveillance capabilities

Commercial Applications: The technology can be utilized in industries such as sports photography, security systems, and scientific research for high-speed imaging needs.

Prior Art: Readers can explore prior patents related to pulse illumination imaging systems and high-speed photography techniques to understand the existing technology landscape.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on advancements in image sensor technology, motion tracking algorithms, and light source innovations for pulse illumination imaging systems.

Questions about Pulse Illumination Imaging Systems: 1. How does the activation time of the image sensor impact the quality of captured images? 2. What are the potential limitations of using pulse illumination in imaging systems?

Original Abstract Submitted

A pulse illumination imaging system is provided. The system includes an image sensor, a light source, and a controller. The image sensor includes a plurality of light sensitive pixel elements that are activatable for a designated exposure time to capture one or more images. The controller is configured to determine an activation time to activate the image sensor based on motion of a target element relative to the image sensor; activate the image sensor at the activation time; and activate the light source during the exposure time of the image sensor to produce a pulse having a preconfigured time duration that is less than the exposure time of the image sensor.
