MULTI-LAYER GOLF BALLS WITH INCREASED INTERLAYER ADHESION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18108271 titled 'MULTI-LAYER GOLF BALLS WITH INCREASED INTERLAYER ADHESION

The patent application discusses casing compositions with carboxylic acid groups, cover compositions with adhesion promoters that crosslink with carboxylic acid groups, and golf balls made from these compositions with crosslinks between the cover and casing layers.

  • The components and concentrations in the compositions affect the adhesion between golf balls, potentially increasing durability.
  • Methods of crosslinking the layers to enhance adhesion are also disclosed.
  • The innovation aims to improve the durability and performance of golf balls through enhanced adhesion properties.
  • By optimizing the composition and crosslinking methods, golf balls with increased longevity can be produced.
  • The technology addresses the need for golf balls that can withstand wear and tear during play, providing a more reliable and consistent performance.
  • The innovation could have applications in the sports equipment industry, specifically in golf ball manufacturing.
  • The technology may lead to the development of more durable and high-performance golf balls, catering to the needs of professional and amateur golfers alike.

Questions about golf ball technology: 1. How do the carboxylic acid groups in the compositions contribute to the adhesion properties of the golf balls? 2. What specific benefits can golfers expect from using golf balls made with these innovative compositions?

Original Abstract Submitted

Casing compositions including carboxylic acid groups, cover compositions including an adhesion promoter with functional groups that crosslink with carboxylic acid groups, and golf balls made from such compositions that have crosslinks between functional groups of the cover compositions and the carboxylic acid groups. The type and concentration of the components in the casing and cover compositions, including the adhesion promoter, affect the adhesion between golf balls having components made from such compositions and, thus, can be used to produce a golf ball having increased durability. Additionally, methods of crosslinking casing and cover layers made from such casing and cover compositions to increase interlayer adhesion are disclosed.
