Chase Combining in a Distributed Wireless System - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17920120 titled 'Chase Combining in a Distributed Wireless System
Simplified Explanation
The patent application describes a wireless system that includes a controlling node and multiple antenna processing nodes. The controlling node receives soft bit information from the antenna processing nodes, which corresponds to the reception of a wireless transmission. If the controlling node cannot decode the transmitted bits using the first soft bit information, it requests and receives second soft bit information from another antenna processing node. The controlling node then decodes the bits from the wireless transmission using both the first and second soft bit information. Finally, the controlling node signals the antenna processing nodes to discard buffered information for the wireless transmission.
- Wireless system with a controlling node and multiple antenna processing nodes
- Controlling node receives soft bit information from antenna processing nodes
- If decoding is not possible with the first soft bit information, the controlling node requests and receives second soft bit information from another antenna processing node
- Bits from the wireless transmission are decoded using both the first and second soft bit information
- Antenna processing nodes are signaled to discard buffered information for the wireless transmission
Potential Applications
- Wireless communication systems
- Mobile networks
- Internet of Things (IoT) devices
- Satellite communication systems
Problems Solved
- Inefficient decoding of wireless transmissions
- Incomplete or inaccurate reception of wireless signals
- Buffering and storage of unnecessary soft bit information
Benefits
- Improved decoding accuracy and efficiency
- Enhanced reception of wireless signals
- Reduction in unnecessary buffering and storage
Original Abstract Submitted
A wireless system comprises a controlling node and multiple antenna processing nodes coupled to the controlling node but separated from each other. The controlling node receives () first soft bit information from a first antenna processing node, the first soft bit information corresponding to reception of a wireless transmission. Responsive to determining that it cannot decode transmitted bits using the first soft bit information, the controlling node requests () and receives () second soft bit information from a second antenna processing node, the second soft bit information also corresponding to the first wireless transmission from the ireless device and having been buffered by the second antenna processing node. The controlling node decodes () bits from the first wireless transmission using both the first and second soft bit information. The controlling node may then signal the antenna processing odes that they can discard buffered information for the wireless transmission.
