Partial Transmission to Support Extended Reality (XR) Traffic - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17756855 titled 'Partial Transmission to Support Extended Reality (XR) Traffic
The abstract describes a patent application for a transmitting device that sends a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) containing multiple MAC subPDUs to a second device. If the second device indicates that the MAC PDU was received incorrectly, the transmitting device can use a partial transmission scheme to retransmit the data.
- The transmitting device sends a MAC PDU with multiple MAC subPDUs to a second device.
- If the second device indicates that the MAC PDU was received incorrectly, the transmitting device can use a partial transmission scheme.
- The transmitting device then retransmits the MAC PDU using the partial transmission scheme.
Potential Applications: - Wireless communication systems - Data transmission protocols - Error correction mechanisms
Problems Solved: - Improving data transmission reliability - Enhancing error detection and correction capabilities

Original Abstract Submitted
A transmitting device is configured to transmit, to a second device, a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) comprising a plurality of MAC subPDUs, each MAC subPDU comprising at least one of a subheader, a MAC service data unit (SDU) or a MAC control element (CE), receive, from the second device, feedback indicating that the MAC PDU was received incorrectly, determine that a partial transmission scheme criteria is satisfied, transmit, to the second device, an indication that the partial transmission scheme is to be used to retransmit the MAC PDU and retransmit, to the second device, the MAC PDU using the partial transmission scheme.
