DATA PATH SEQUENCING IN MEMORY SYSTEMS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17832068 titled 'DATA PATH SEQUENCING IN MEMORY SYSTEMS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes systems and methods for scheduling data paths in memory systems. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • The system includes a memory array with multiple memory cells and a controller connected to the memory array.
  • The controller performs various operations, including retrieving a memory access command from a queue.
  • It identifies the specific memory device mentioned in the command and checks if it is available.
  • The controller also verifies the availability of any resources required to execute the memory access command.
  • Once availability is confirmed, the controller transmits the memory access command to the memory device.
  • Finally, the controller removes the memory access command from the queue.

Potential applications of this technology include:

  • Memory management in computer systems: This technology can be used to efficiently schedule and execute memory access commands, improving overall system performance.
  • Data storage systems: The scheduling methods described in the patent application can be applied to optimize data access and retrieval in storage devices, such as solid-state drives or hard disk drives.
  • Cloud computing: Memory systems in cloud computing environments can benefit from efficient data path scheduling, allowing for faster and more reliable data access for multiple users simultaneously.
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices: With the increasing number of IoT devices generating and processing data, efficient memory access scheduling becomes crucial to ensure smooth operation and responsiveness of these devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

Described are systems and methods for data path scheduling in memory systems. An example system comprises: a memory array comprising a plurality of memory cells; and a controller coupled to the memory array, the controller to perform operations comprising: retrieving a memory access command from a memory access command queue; identifying a memory device specified by the memory access command; verifying availability of the memory device; verifying availability of one or more resources that are required for servicing the memory access command; transmitting the memory access command to the memory device; and removing the memory access command from the memory access command queue.
