Patent Applications by Waymo LLC

20240317265. COLLISION EVALUATION USING A HIERARCHY OF GRIDS_simplified_abstract_(waymo llc)

Inventor(s): Dong Li of Los Gatos CA (US) for waymo llc, Tian Jin of San Francisco CA (US) for waymo llc, Mingxiang Fan of Cupertino CA (US) for waymo llc, Rajiv Kurian of Redwood City CA (US) for waymo llc

IPC Code(s): B60W60/00, G08G1/16

CPC Code(s): B60W60/0016

Abstract: aspects of the disclosure provide for evaluation of a planned trajectory for an autonomous vehicle. for instance, for each of a plurality of objects, a predicted trajectory may be received. the planned trajectory may identify locations and times that the vehicle will be at those locations. for each of the plurality of objects, a grid including a plurality of cells may be generated. occupancy of each grid for each of the plurality of objects may be determined based on the predicted trajectories. a cell of each grid which will be occupied by the vehicle at a location and time of the planned trajectory may be identified. the planned trajectory may be evaluated based on whether any identified cell is occupied by any of the plurality of objects at the time.

20240319378. LIGHT DETECTION AND RANGING (LIDAR) DEVICES HAVING VERTICAL-CAVITY SURFACE-EMITTING LASER (VCSEL) EMITTERS_simplified_abstract_(waymo llc)

Inventor(s): David Schleuning of Piedmont CA (US) for waymo llc, James Dunphy of San Jose CA (US) for waymo llc, Augusto Tazzoli of San Jose CA (US) for waymo llc, Matthew Last of San Jose CA (US) for waymo llc

IPC Code(s): G01S17/931, G01S7/481, H01S5/183, H01S5/42

CPC Code(s): G01S17/931

Abstract: example embodiments relate to light detection and ranging (lidar) devices having vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (vcsel) emitters. an example lidar device includes an array of individually addressable vcsels configured to emit light pulses into an environment surrounding the lidar device. the lidar device also includes a firing circuit configured to selectively fire the individually addressable vcsels in the array. in addition, the lidar device includes a controller configured to control the firing circuit using a control signal. further, the lidar device includes a plurality of detectors. each detector in the plurality of detectors is configured to detect reflections of light pulses that are emitted by one or more individually addressable vcsels in the array and reflected by one or more objects in the environment surrounding the lidar device.

20240320810. Systems and Methods for a Tone Mapper Solution for an Autonomous Driving System_simplified_abstract_(waymo llc)

Inventor(s): Xiaoying He of Palo Alto CA (US) for waymo llc, Ryan Geiss of San Jose CA (US) for waymo llc, Pieter Kapsenberg of Santa Clara CA (US) for waymo llc, Carl Warren Craddock of San Francisco CA (US) for waymo llc, Zhinan Xu of San Jose CA (US) for waymo llc, Lucian Ion of Mountain View CA (US) for waymo llc, Ajay Chandra Venkata Gummalla of Sunnyvale CA (US) for waymo llc

IPC Code(s): G06T5/92, G06T3/4007, G06T5/94

CPC Code(s): G06T5/92

Abstract: a system is provided that includes an image sensor coupled to a vehicle, and control circuitry configured to perform operations including receiving, from the image sensor, an input stream comprising high dynamic range (hdr) image data associated with an environment of the vehicle, and processing the input stream at the vehicle by applying a global tone mapping, followed by offline image processing that can include applying a local tone mapping to the globally tone mapped images of the same input stream.
