Patent Applications by Waymo LLC

20250002009. Detection of Pedestrian Using Radio Devices_simplified_abstract_(waymo llc)

Inventor(s): Pierre-yves Droz of Los Altos CA (US) for waymo llc

IPC Code(s): B60W30/09, H04W84/12

CPC Code(s): B60W30/09

Abstract: the present radio system transmits an electromagnetic signal to nearby devices requesting the device respond. the radio system also receives responses to the electromagnetic signal from the nearby devices. based on the radio technology used, the signaling of the transmitted electromagnetic signal may be varied. for example, the transmitted electromagnetic signal may be a bluetooth, 802.11, or other radio signal. a device that received the signal from the radio unit may transmit a response signal with the same radio technology. however, in some instances, the radio technology used for communication may operate on several radio (e.g., frequency) channels. both the transmitter and receiver must operate on the same channel at the same time in order to communicate. thus, it may be desirable to transmit the electromagnetic signal on more than one channel at the same time, in order to increase the chances that a nearby device responds.

20250002051. LATERAL GAP PLANNING FOR AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES_simplified_abstract_(waymo llc)

Inventor(s): Victor Puchkarev of Santa Cruz CA (US) for waymo llc, Alexander Ruben Stacey McCarthy of San Francisco CA (US) for waymo llc, Aleix Paris i Bordas of San Francisco CA (US) for waymo llc, Jennifer Iglesias of San Francisco CA (US) for waymo llc, Allison Thackston of San Jose CA (US) for waymo llc, Xinrui Wang of Palo Alto CA (US) for waymo llc

IPC Code(s): B60W60/00, B60W50/02

CPC Code(s): B60W60/0027

Abstract: aspects of the disclosure provide for controlling an autonomous vehicle. for instance, a trajectory for the autonomous vehicle to traverse in order to follow a route to a destination may be generated. a first error value for a boundary of an object, a second error value for a location of the autonomous vehicle, a third error value for a predicted future location of the object may be received. an uncertainty value for the object may be determined by combining the first error value, the second error value, and the third error value. a lateral gap threshold for the object may be determined based on the uncertainty value. the autonomous vehicle may be controlled in an autonomous driving mode based on the lateral gap threshold for the object.

20250002052. Permeable Speed Constraints_simplified_abstract_(waymo llc)

Inventor(s): Jared Stephen Russell of San Francisco CA (US) for waymo llc, Tobias Kunz of San Francisco CA (US) for waymo llc, Anup Menon of Fremont CA (US) for waymo llc

IPC Code(s): B60W60/00

CPC Code(s): B60W60/00276

Abstract: the technology relates to planning trajectories for self-driving vehicles in order to transport passengers or cargo from a pickup location to a destination. trajectory planning includes generating a speed plan for an upcoming portion of the trip in view of one or more constraints. the constraints may be due to proximity to an adjacent vehicle or other road user, and can include projected overlaps between the vehicle and other objects in the vehicle's nearby environment. certain constraints may be binary or otherwise discontinuous in nature, in which a condition either exists at a given point in time or it does not. noise in sensor data or prediction models may trigger such binary conditions, which in turn may cause the vehicle to alter the speed plan. aspects of the technology employ permeable speed constraints that enable the vehicle to avoid problems associated with discontinuous constraints.

20250004126. Methods and Systems For Radar Image Video Compression Using Per-Pixel Doppler Measurements_simplified_abstract_(waymo llc)

Inventor(s): Nicholas Armstrong-Crews of Mountain View CA (US) for waymo llc, Filip Perich of Mountain View CA (US) for waymo llc, Timothy Campbell of Mountain View CA (US) for waymo llc

IPC Code(s): G01S13/89, B60W60/00, G01S7/41, G06T7/00, G06T7/246

CPC Code(s): G01S13/89

Abstract: example embodiments relate to radar image video compression techniques using per-pixel doppler measurements, which can involve initially receiving radar data from a radar unit to generate a radar representation that represents surfaces in the environment. based on doppler scores in the radar representation, a range rate can be determined for each pixel that indicates a radial direction motion for a surface represented by the pixel. the range rates and backscatter values can then be used to estimate a radar representation prediction for subsequent radar data received from the radar unit, which enables a generation of a compressed radar data file that represents the difference between the radar representation prediction and the actual representation determined for the subsequent radar data. the compressed radar data file can be stored in memory, transmitted to other devices, and decompressed and used to train models via machine learning.

20250004470. GENERATING TRAJECTORIES FOR AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES_simplified_abstract_(waymo llc)

Inventor(s): Guillaume Dupre of San Francisco CA (US) for waymo llc, Benjamin Charrow of Millbrae CA (US) for waymo llc

IPC Code(s): G05D1/00, B60W50/00, G01C21/34

CPC Code(s): G05D1/0214

Abstract: aspects of the disclosure provide for generation of trajectories for a vehicle driving in an autonomous driving mode. in one instance, a default number of trajectories to be generated may be identified. a set of maneuvering options may be selected from a set of predetermined maneuvering options based on the number of trajectories. the set of maneuvering options may be filtered based on the default number of trajectories. a set of trajectories may be generated based on the filtered set of maneuvering option such that each trajectory of the set corresponds to a different maneuvering behavior. a cost for each trajectory of the set of trajectories may be determined, and one of the trajectories of the set of trajectories may be selected based on the determined costs. the vehicle may be maneuvered in the autonomous driving mode according to the selected one of the trajectories.

20250008203. Systems, Apparatus, and Methods for Generating Enhanced Images_simplified_abstract_(waymo llc)

IPC Code(s): H04N23/45, H04N5/265, H04N23/60, H04N23/62, H04N23/695

CPC Code(s): H04N23/45

Abstract: described examples relate to an apparatus comprising a first sensor configured to scan an area of interest during a first time period and a second sensor configured to capture a plurality of images of a field of view. the apparatus may include at least one controller configured to receive the plurality of images captured by the second sensor, compare the timestamp information associated with at least one image of the plurality of images to at least one time period of the first time period, and select a base image from the plurality of images based on the comparison.
