CROSS-CLOUD WORKLOAD PORTABILITY ACROSS CLOUD PROVIDERS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240248769 titled 'CROSS-CLOUD WORKLOAD PORTABILITY ACROSS CLOUD PROVIDERS

The present disclosure involves the movement of workloads between different cloud providers using a traceability application.

  • The traceability application can register a workload from one cloud computing environment to another by generating an identification token and an asset record.
  • The identification token uniquely identifies the workload among many associated with various cloud computing environments.
  • When a workload migrates from one virtualization service to another, the traceability application transfers ownership of the identification token accordingly.
  • The asset record is updated to reflect the transfer of ownership from the first to the second virtualization service.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be used by companies looking to switch cloud providers without losing track of their workloads. - It can also benefit organizations that need to maintain traceability and ownership of their assets in a dynamic cloud environment.

Problems Solved: - Simplifies the process of moving workloads between cloud providers. - Ensures accurate tracking and ownership of assets during migration.

Benefits: - Streamlines workload migration processes. - Enhances asset traceability and ownership management in cloud computing environments.

Commercial Applications: Title: Cloud Workload Migration and Ownership Management Technology This technology can be valuable for cloud service providers, IT companies, and businesses with complex cloud infrastructure that require seamless workload migration and asset management.

Questions about Cloud Workload Migration and Ownership Management Technology: 1. How does this technology improve asset traceability in cloud computing environments?

This technology enhances asset traceability by generating unique identification tokens for workloads and updating asset records accordingly during migration.

2. What are the key benefits of using a traceability application for workload migration between cloud providers?

The key benefits include simplifying the migration process, ensuring accurate tracking of assets, and facilitating seamless ownership management.

Original Abstract Submitted

the present disclosure relates to moving workloads between cloud providers. a traceability application can receive a request to register a workload from a first virtualization service associated with a first cloud computing environment. to register the workload, the traceability application can generate an identification token in a distributed data store and an asset record corresponding to the identification token. the identification token can uniquely identify the workload among a plurality of workloads associated with a plurality of cloud computing environments. the traceability application can detect a migration of the vm from the first virtualization service associated with the first cloud computing environment to a second virtualization service associated with the second cloud computing environment. the traceability application can cause a transfer of an ownership of the identification token from the first virtualization service to the second virtualization service. the traceability application can update the asset record to reflect the transfer of the ownership of the identification token from the first virtualization service to the second virtualization service.
