Custom Corrective Lens - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240280833 titled 'Custom Corrective Lens

Simplified Explanation:

A custom lens device created by a specialized 3D printer is disclosed as a corrective lens for distorted vision caused by eye diseases such as epiretinal membrane and macular degeneration.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Custom lens created by a specialized 3D printer
  • Combines laboratory measurements of the retina with subjective input from the patient
  • Corrects distorted vision caused by undulations in the retina
  • Collaboration between technician, ophthalmologist, and optometrist

Potential Applications: The technology can be used in the field of optometry to create custom corrective lenses for patients with distorted vision due to eye diseases.

Problems Solved: The technology addresses the issue of distorted vision caused by undulations in the retina, improving the quality of life for patients with eye diseases.

Benefits:

  • Improved vision for patients with eye diseases
  • Customized solution for each individual
  • Collaboration between healthcare professionals for better outcomes

Commercial Applications: The technology can be used in optometry clinics to provide custom corrective lenses for patients with specific eye conditions, potentially improving patient satisfaction and outcomes.

Prior Art: Prior art related to this technology may include research on custom lens manufacturing and 3D printing in the field of optometry.

Frequently Updated Research: Ongoing research in the field of optometry may lead to advancements in custom lens technology and 3D printing for corrective lenses.

Questions about Custom Lens Device: 1. How does the collaboration between a technician, ophthalmologist, and optometrist contribute to the creation of custom lenses? 2. What are the potential long-term benefits of using custom lenses created by a specialized 3D printer for patients with eye diseases?

Original Abstract Submitted

a custom lens device is disclosed as a corrective lens created by a specialized 3d printer. specifically, a qualified technician working with an ophthalmologist and/or an optometrist combine laboratory measurements of the retina and other eye surfaces, then combine that data with subjective input from the patient's correction to an amsler grid, to create a custom lens that will un-distort vision which has been distorted (i.e., warped), due to undulations in the retina caused by a number of eye diseases, including, but not limited to, epiretinal membrane and macular degeneration.
