Method of Manufacturing Prosthetic Socket Interface - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240232445 titled 'Method of Manufacturing Prosthetic Socket Interface

    • Simplified Explanation:**

This patent application describes a method for manufacturing an interface for a body part using additive manufacturing. The method involves obtaining a digital model of the body part, modifying the digital model, and creating a compression pattern with compression areas to reduce motion of the skeletal structure towards the interface wall.

    • Key Features and Innovation:**
  • Additive manufacturing process used to create interface for body part
  • Digital model of body part modified to create compression pattern
  • Compression areas spaced around long axis of digital model
  • Compression pattern reduces motion of skeletal structure towards interface wall
    • Potential Applications:**

This technology could be used in the medical field for creating customized interfaces for prosthetics, orthopedic devices, and other medical devices requiring a precise fit.

    • Problems Solved:**

This technology addresses the issue of motion of the skeletal structure towards the interface wall, which can cause discomfort and instability in devices attached to the body.

    • Benefits:**
  • Improved comfort and stability of devices attached to body parts
  • Customized fit for individual body parts
  • Enhanced performance of medical devices
    • Commercial Applications:**
  • Custom prosthetics and orthopedic devices
  • Medical device manufacturing industry
  • Research and development in biomechanics and orthopedics
    • Questions about the Technology:**

1. How does this technology improve the fit and comfort of medical devices? 2. What are the potential cost implications of using additive manufacturing for creating customized interfaces for body parts?

    • Frequently Updated Research:**

Ongoing research in additive manufacturing techniques and materials could further enhance the precision and effectiveness of this technology in creating interfaces for body parts.

Original Abstract Submitted

a method of manufacturing an interface for a body part using an additive manufacturing process is described. the method obtaining a digital model of the body part and modifying the digital model, and spacing a plurality of compression areas around a long axis of the digital model to create a compression pattern. the compression pattern is sized and dimensioned to compress soft tissue of the body part against the skeletal structure such that motion of the skeletal structure towards a wall of the interface is reduced.
