SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR VIRTUAL ONLINE MEDICAL TEAM TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240221518 titled 'SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR VIRTUAL ONLINE MEDICAL TEAM TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT

The patent application describes a system and method for training and assessing medical teams using a virtual simulated hospital environment and patient avatar.

  • Virtual simulated hospital environment with simulated objects
  • Virtual patient avatar providing team training scenarios
  • Team members represented by avatars interact with patient avatar and objects
  • Team training conducted through audio, video, and animation interactions
  • Haptic feedback interactions between team members and patient avatar

Potential Applications: - Medical team training and assessment - Simulation-based medical education - Continuing medical education programs

Problems Solved: - Enhancing teamwork and communication skills in medical teams - Providing realistic and immersive training scenarios - Assessing team performance in a controlled environment

Benefits: - Improved patient outcomes through better team coordination - Cost-effective and scalable training solution - Real-time feedback and assessment for continuous improvement

Commercial Applications: Title: Virtual Medical Team Training System for Healthcare Institutions This technology can be utilized by hospitals, medical schools, and healthcare institutions for training and assessing medical teams. It can also be licensed to medical simulation companies for wider distribution.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the virtual patient avatar enhance the training experience for medical teams? 2. What are the advantages of using haptic feedback interactions in team training scenarios?

Original Abstract Submitted

there is disclosed a system and method for training and providing an assessment of medical teams. in an embodiment, the system comprises: a virtual simulated hospital environment having a plurality of simulated objects; and a virtual patient avatar configured to provide various team training scenarios; whereby, a plurality of team members individually represented by team member avatars interact with the patient avatar and the plurality of simulated objects to perform one or more team training scenarios on the patient avatar within the virtual simulated hospital environment. in another embodiment, the team training is conducted through one or more of audio and video interaction and animation between the team members, and with one or more instructors. in another embodiment, the team training is conducted through one or more of haptic feedback interactions between the team members and the patient avatar.
