ELECTRIC VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240317089 titled 'ELECTRIC VEHICLE

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes an electric vehicle with a charger that charges a high-voltage battery from an external power source. The charger is connected to the battery through a relay switch controlled by a control apparatus.

  • The charger is designed to start charging the high-voltage battery after a predetermined time delay to ensure the battery cells are ready for charging.
  • The control apparatus maintains the relay in a closed state until the charger is ready to begin charging the battery.
  • This system helps prevent damage to the battery cells by ensuring they are at the correct voltage level before charging begins.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Charger connected to high-voltage battery through relay switch.
  • Control apparatus delays charging start to allow battery cells to reach proper voltage.
  • Prevents damage to battery cells by ensuring they are ready for charging.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and other battery-powered devices where high-voltage batteries need to be charged safely and efficiently.

Problems Solved:

  • Prevents damage to battery cells by ensuring they are at the correct voltage level before charging.
  • Ensures efficient and safe charging of high-voltage batteries in electric vehicles.

Benefits:

  • Extends the lifespan of high-voltage batteries.
  • Improves the safety and efficiency of charging processes in electric vehicles.
  • Reduces the risk of damage to battery cells during charging.

Commercial Applications: The technology can be utilized by electric vehicle manufacturers to enhance the performance and longevity of their vehicles. It can also be integrated into charging infrastructure to improve the overall charging experience for electric vehicle owners.

Questions about Electric Vehicle Charging Technology: 1. How does the control apparatus determine the proper voltage level for the battery cells before starting the charging process? 2. What are the potential implications of this technology on the overall efficiency of electric vehicle charging systems?

Original Abstract Submitted

an electric vehicle including a charger configured to charge a high-voltage battery with an electric power supplied from an external power source. the charger is disposed on an electric path that is to be connected to and disconnected from the high-voltage battery by switching of a relay. when the high-voltage battery is to be charged by the charger, a control apparatus executes a charging-start-stage control by which a closed state of the relay is maintained until a predetermined time elapses after the relay is switched to the closed state in response to connection of the external power source, wherein the predetermined time is predetermined as a period in which the charger actually starts charging the high-voltage battery and a voltage of battery cells included in the high-voltage battery is increased.
