METHOD OF PRODUCING POROUS BODY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240254300 titled 'METHOD OF PRODUCING POROUS BODY

    • Simplified Explanation:**

The patent application describes a method for producing a porous body of a water-insoluble polymer that is simple and prevents the formation of a skin layer. The method involves dissolving the polymer in a mixed solvent, coating it on a substrate, adding a slurry with insulating particles, a binder, and a dispersion medium, and drying to create pores in the polymer.

    • Key Features and Innovation:**

- Dissolving water-insoluble polymer in a mixed solvent - Coating the solution on a substrate - Adding a slurry with insulating particles, a binder, and a dispersion medium - Simultaneously drying the coated solution and slurry to create pores in the polymer - Use of a good solvent and a poor solvent with different boiling points - Dispersion medium that can dissolve the water-insoluble polymer

    • Potential Applications:**

- Production of porous materials for filtration - Creation of lightweight materials for insulation - Development of scaffolds for tissue engineering

    • Problems Solved:**

- Formation of skin layer in porous polymer bodies - Complexity in producing porous polymer materials - Lack of control over pore size and distribution

    • Benefits:**

- Simplified method for producing porous polymer bodies - Enhanced control over pore structure - Prevention of skin layer formation

    • Commercial Applications:**

Potential commercial applications include the production of filters, insulation materials, and scaffolds for tissue engineering, catering to industries such as healthcare, construction, and manufacturing.

    • Questions about the Technology:**

1. How does the method prevent the formation of a skin layer in the porous polymer body? 2. What are the advantages of using a mixed solvent with a good and poor solvent for dissolving the water-insoluble polymer?

Original Abstract Submitted

provided is a method of producing a porous body of a water-insoluble polymer, the method being excellent in terms of simplicity and capable of suppressing formation of a skin layer. a method of producing a porous body of a water-insoluble polymer disclosed here includes the steps of: preparing a solution in which a water-insoluble polymer is dissolved in a mixed solvent containing a good solvent for the water-insoluble polymer and a poor solvent for the water-insoluble polymer; coating the solution on a substrate; coating a slurry containing insulating particles, a binder and a dispersion medium on the coated solution; and simultaneously drying the coated solution and the slurry to porosify the water-insoluble polymer. the poor solvent has a boiling point higher than a boiling point of the good solvent. the dispersion medium can dissolve the water-insoluble polymer.
