ALL SOLID STATE BATTERY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240250295 titled 'ALL SOLID STATE BATTERY

The abstract of the patent application describes an all solid-state battery designed to inhibit the occurrence of internal short circuits. The battery includes a cathode layer, a solid electrolyte layer, and an anode layer, with at least one of the cathode layer and the solid electrolyte layer containing an inorganic solid electrolyte, while the anode layer contains a polymer electrolyte. The anode layer's area is smaller than that of the solid electrolyte layer and the cathode layer in a plan view along the thickness direction of the battery.

  • Inhibits internal short circuits in all solid-state batteries
  • Contains inorganic solid electrolyte in cathode or solid electrolyte layer
  • Anode layer made of polymer electrolyte
  • Anode layer area smaller than solid electrolyte and cathode layer
  • Designed to prevent safety hazards in battery operation

Potential Applications: - Electric vehicles - Portable electronics - Energy storage systems

Problems Solved: - Internal short circuit prevention - Enhanced safety in battery operation

Benefits: - Improved battery safety - Increased reliability - Longer battery lifespan

Commercial Applications: Title: Enhanced Safety All Solid-State Batteries for Electric Vehicles and Portable Electronics This technology can be utilized in electric vehicles, portable electronics, and energy storage systems to enhance safety and reliability, appealing to consumers looking for long-lasting and secure battery solutions.

Questions about All Solid-State Batteries: 1. How does the inclusion of inorganic solid electrolyte in the cathode or solid electrolyte layer contribute to preventing internal short circuits? 2. What are the advantages of using a polymer electrolyte in the anode layer of the all solid-state battery?

Original Abstract Submitted

a main object of the present disclosure is to provide an all solid state battery in which occurrence of internal short circuit is inhibited. the present disclosure achieves the object by providing an all solid state battery including, in an order along with a thickness direction, a cathode layer, a solid electrolyte layer and an anode layer; wherein at least one of the cathode layer and the solid electrolyte layer contains an inorganic solid electrolyte; the anode layer contains a polymer electrolyte; and, in a plan view along with the thickness direction of the all solid state battery, an area of the anode layer is smaller than an area of the solid electrolyte layer and an area of the cathode layer.
