CONTROL DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240229730 titled 'CONTROL DEVICE

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a control device for a turbocharger in an internal combustion engine, which includes a turbine and a compressor. The control device is designed to maintain the boost pressure of the turbocharger within a specified range by controlling the turbine and calculating the decrease in compressor efficiency.

  • The control device regulates the turbine to keep the boost pressure of the turbocharger at or below a set value.
  • It calculates the decrease in compressor efficiency to ensure optimal performance.
  • The allowable boost pressure is determined based on the intake air amount in the intake passage.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Control unit manages turbine to maintain boost pressure.
  • First calculation unit computes decrease in compressor efficiency.
  • Second calculation unit determines allowable boost pressure based on intake air amount.

Potential Applications: This technology can be used in various internal combustion engines to optimize turbocharger performance and enhance engine efficiency.

Problems Solved:

  • Ensures the turbocharger operates within safe pressure limits.
  • Maximizes compressor efficiency for better engine performance.

Benefits:

  • Improved engine efficiency.
  • Enhanced turbocharger performance.
  • Optimal boost pressure control.

Commercial Applications: This technology can be applied in automotive industry for vehicles with turbocharged engines, as well as in industrial settings where internal combustion engines are used.

Prior Art: Researchers can explore prior patents related to turbocharger control devices and engine efficiency optimization.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on advancements in turbocharger technology, engine control systems, and efficiency optimization in internal combustion engines.

Questions about Turbocharger Control Devices: 1. How does this technology impact the overall performance of internal combustion engines? 2. What are the potential cost savings associated with using this control device in turbocharged engines?

Original Abstract Submitted

as for a control device for a turbocharger including a turbine, disposed in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine, and a compressor, disposed in an intake passage of the internal combustion engine and driven by the turbine, the control device includes a control unit configured to control the turbine such that a boost pressure of the turbocharger in the intake passage becomes equal to or lower than an allowable value, a first calculation unit configured to calculate a decrease amount of a compressor efficiency of the compressor, and a second calculation unit configured to calculate the allowable value based on an intake air amount in the intake passage, in accordance with the decrease amount.
