INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240212357 titled 'INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD

The abstract of the patent application describes an information processing apparatus that selects objects detected in a captured image from a vehicle-mounted camera and generates utterance content to be spoken to an onboard person in the vehicle. The apparatus determines the range of objects based on factors such as the vehicle's speed, whether it is operating autonomously, and the onboard person's line of sight.

  • Simplified Explanation:

- An apparatus processes information from a vehicle-mounted camera to select objects in the captured image and generate speech content for the onboard person.

  • Key Features and Innovation:

- Selection of objects in the captured image based on predetermined range. - Generation of utterance content related to the selected objects. - Adjustment of the predetermined range based on vehicle speed and onboard person's line of sight.

  • Potential Applications:

- In-vehicle assistance systems. - Autonomous driving technology. - Enhanced communication between vehicle and passengers.

  • Problems Solved:

- Providing relevant information to onboard persons. - Improving communication in vehicles. - Enhancing safety and convenience for passengers.

  • Benefits:

- Increased situational awareness for onboard persons. - Improved user experience in vehicles. - Enhanced safety features for passengers.

  • Commercial Applications:

- Potential use in automotive industry for advanced driver assistance systems. - Integration into autonomous vehicles for improved communication with passengers. - Application in smart transportation solutions for enhanced passenger experience.

  • Questions about the Technology:

1. How does the apparatus determine the range of objects to be selected in the captured image? - The range is determined based on factors such as vehicle speed and the onboard person's line of sight.

2. What are the potential implications of this technology for autonomous driving systems? - This technology could enhance communication between the vehicle and passengers in autonomous driving scenarios, improving overall safety and user experience.

Original Abstract Submitted

an information processing apparatus includes a processor configured to: select one or more first objects detected from a predetermined range in a captured image from a vehicle-mounted camera that takes an outward direction from a vehicle as a capturing range, the predetermined range being based on a field of view of an onboard person in the vehicle, and generate utterance content that takes the one or more first objects as a topic, the utterance content being to be uttered to the onboard person. the processor sets the predetermined range based on at least one of a traveling speed of the vehicle, whether traveling is performed by autonomous driving of the vehicle or not, and a position where a line of sight of the onboard person is focused on.
