VEHICLE CONTROL DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240190427 titled 'VEHICLE CONTROL DEVICE

Simplified Explanation:

The patent application describes a vehicle control device that uses image data from a camera to recognize the border of a vehicle's traveling area and takes action if the vehicle is predicted to depart from a reference line or has already departed. Additionally, the device can identify a registered three-dimensional object in the image data to make it easier to recognize the border in a specific easing area.

  • The device recognizes the border of a vehicle's traveling area using image data from a camera.
  • It can trigger a departure alarm or departure control if the vehicle is predicted to depart from a reference line.
  • The device can also identify a registered three-dimensional object in the image data.
  • By recognizing the registered object, it can enhance the recognition of the border in a predetermined easing area.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in advanced driver assistance systems to improve vehicle safety by preventing unintended departures from the road.

Problems Solved: 1. Preventing vehicles from departing from their intended path. 2. Enhancing border recognition in specific areas for improved safety.

Benefits: 1. Increased safety on the road. 2. Enhanced driver assistance capabilities. 3. Improved accuracy in recognizing borders.

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Driver Assistance Systems for Enhanced Safety This technology can be utilized by automotive manufacturers to enhance the safety features of vehicles and improve driver assistance systems, potentially appealing to safety-conscious consumers.

Prior Art: Prior art related to this technology may include patents or research on vehicle control systems, image recognition in automotive applications, and advanced driver assistance systems.

Frequently Updated Research: Research on image processing algorithms, machine learning techniques for object recognition, and advancements in vehicle automation technology may be relevant to this technology.

Questions about Vehicle Control Device with Border Recognition: 1. How does the device determine the border of the vehicle's traveling area? 2. What are the potential implications of using registered three-dimensional objects for border recognition in easing areas?

Original Abstract Submitted

a vehicle control device recognizes a border of a traveling area of a vehicle based on image data acquired when a camera photographs a forward view of the vehicle, and performs at least one of a departure alarm and a departure control when the vehicle is predicted to depart from a reference line set based on the border or when the vehicle has departed from the border. furthermore, the vehicle control device determines whether a particular registered three-dimensional object that is previously registered exists, based on the image data, and makes it easier to recognize the border in a predetermined easing area set based on the position of the registered three-dimensional object on the image data, than in a normal area on the image data other than the easing area, when it is determined that the registered three-dimensional object exists.
