INTERVENTION OPERATION DETERMINATION APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240343260 titled 'INTERVENTION OPERATION DETERMINATION APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes an intervention operation determination apparatus for autonomous driving vehicles. It includes a steering unit, a steering wheel, and a detection unit to detect the driver's operation during autonomous driving.

  • The apparatus determines if the driver intervenes by operating the steering unit during autonomous driving.
  • A controller controls the actuator based on the intervention operation detected.
  • The controller identifies intervention operations by comparing target and actual steering angles during autonomous driving.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Detection of driver intervention during autonomous driving.
  • Comparison of target and actual steering angles to identify intervention operations.
  • Control of the actuator based on detected intervention operations.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in autonomous vehicles to enhance safety and ensure driver involvement when necessary.

Problems Solved: The technology addresses the challenge of detecting driver intervention during autonomous driving to improve overall vehicle control and safety.

Benefits:

  • Increased safety in autonomous driving.
  • Enhanced driver involvement when needed.
  • Improved control of the vehicle during intervention operations.

Commercial Applications: Potential commercial applications include autonomous vehicle technology companies, automotive manufacturers, and transportation services looking to enhance safety and driver involvement in autonomous driving systems.

Prior Art: Prior art related to this technology may include research on driver intervention detection systems in autonomous vehicles.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on advancements in autonomous driving technology, driver intervention detection systems, and control mechanisms for autonomous vehicles.

Questions about Autonomous Driving Intervention Detection: 1. How does the intervention operation determination apparatus detect driver intervention during autonomous driving? 2. What are the key benefits of identifying driver intervention in autonomous vehicles?

Original Abstract Submitted

an intervention operation determination apparatus includes: a steering unit operated by a driver; a steering wheel to be turned in conjunction with the operation of the steering unit; and a detection unit that detects an operation amount of the steering unit when a steering force that turns the steering wheel is generated. the intervention operation determination apparatus determines that the driver has operated the steering unit during autonomous driving in which traveling by controlling an actuator without an operation of the steering unit by the driver is performed. the intervention operation determination apparatus further includes a controller that controls the actuator. the controller determines that there has been an intervention operation in which the driver operates the steering unit based on a deviation between a target steering angle in the autonomous driving and an actual steering angle based on an operation amount detected by the detection unit.
