INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240212357 titled 'INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD

The patent application describes an information processing apparatus that selects objects detected in a captured image from a vehicle-mounted camera and generates content to be uttered to an onboard person based on the selected objects.

  • The processor selects objects within a predetermined range in the captured image, taking into account the field of view of the onboard person in the vehicle.
  • The processor generates utterance content with the selected objects as the topic, to be communicated to the onboard person.
  • The predetermined range is determined based on factors such as the vehicle's traveling speed, whether autonomous driving is being used, and the position where the onboard person's line of sight is focused.

Potential Applications: - This technology could be used in vehicles to provide real-time information to passengers based on objects detected in the surroundings. - It could enhance the communication between the vehicle's system and the onboard person, improving the overall driving experience.

Problems Solved: - Helps in providing relevant and timely information to the onboard person based on the surroundings. - Enhances the interaction between the vehicle's system and the passenger.

Benefits: - Improved communication and interaction within the vehicle. - Enhanced safety and convenience for the onboard person.

Commercial Applications: Title: Enhanced Communication System for Vehicle Passengers This technology could be utilized by automotive companies to develop advanced communication systems for vehicles, enhancing the overall passenger experience and safety. It could also be integrated into autonomous vehicles to provide passengers with real-time information about their surroundings.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does this technology improve the overall driving experience for passengers? 2. What are the key factors considered in determining the predetermined range for object selection in the captured image?

Frequently Updated Research: There may be ongoing research in the field of human-machine interaction in vehicles, focusing on improving communication systems for passengers and enhancing the overall driving experience. Researchers may be exploring new ways to integrate advanced technologies like AI and machine learning into vehicle communication systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

an information processing apparatus includes a processor configured to: select one or more first objects detected from a predetermined range in a captured image from a vehicle-mounted camera that takes an outward direction from a vehicle as a capturing range, the predetermined range being based on a field of view of an onboard person in the vehicle, and generate utterance content that takes the one or more first objects as a topic, the utterance content being to be uttered to the onboard person. the processor sets the predetermined range based on at least one of a traveling speed of the vehicle, whether traveling is performed by autonomous driving of the vehicle or not, and a position where a line of sight of the onboard person is focused on.
