METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR EVALUATING AUDIO QUALITY METRICS USING VOICE ACTIVITY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240297834 titled 'METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR EVALUATING AUDIO QUALITY METRICS USING VOICE ACTIVITY

The patent application discusses methods and systems for evaluating audio quality using voice activity in a 4G and/or 5G network.

  • Network component determines voice call establishment between users in a wireless network.
  • Measures packet loss rate, muting rate, and voice activity of the audio stream during the call.
  • Determines impact on user perception based on these measurements.

Potential Applications: - Telecommunications industry for improving voice call quality. - Network optimization for better user experience. - Quality assurance in audio streaming services.

Problems Solved: - Assessing audio quality in real-time. - Identifying factors affecting user perception during voice calls. - Enhancing network performance for better communication.

Benefits: - Improved audio quality in voice calls. - Enhanced user experience during communication. - Efficient network management and optimization.

Commercial Applications: Title: "Enhancing Audio Quality in Telecommunications Networks" This technology can be used by telecom companies to improve voice call quality, leading to higher customer satisfaction and retention. It can also be integrated into audio streaming services to ensure better audio performance for users.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does this technology impact network efficiency? - This technology helps in optimizing network resources by identifying and addressing factors affecting audio quality in voice calls. 2. What are the potential cost savings for telecom companies implementing this technology? - By improving audio quality and user experience, telecom companies can reduce customer churn and increase revenue through higher customer satisfaction.

Original Abstract Submitted

methods and systems for evaluating an audio quality using voice activity in a 4g and/or 5g network are disclosed. according to an implementation, a network component may determine that a voice call from a first user to a second user is established in a wireless network. the network component may include a user plane function in a 5g network and/or a serving gateway/packet data network gateway in a 4g network. the network component may obtain an audio stream associated with the voice call periodically until the voice call ends. the network component may further measure a packet loss rate of the audio stream, a muting rate of the audio stream, and a voice activity of the audio stream. the network component may determine whether the user perception of the voice call is impacted based at least in part on the packet loss rate, the muting rate, or the voice activity.
