a negative electrode includes a negative electrode current collector with a surface having roughened surface, and a negative electrode active material layer provided on the negative electrode current collector, in which the negative electrode active material layer has a multilayer structure, in the multilayer structure, a central portion of each layer in a thickness direction includes a composite compound containing silicon, lithium, and oxygen, a plurality of first regions having a lower amount of oxygen, and a plurality of second regions having a higher amount of oxygen than the first regions, and an average width of each of a maximum width in the first regions and a maximum width in the second regions is 10 nm or less. thereby the negative electrode can significantly increase a capacity while maintaining excellent battery characteristics.
