PLACEMENT TRAY AND RECORDING DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240208748 titled 'PLACEMENT TRAY AND RECORDING DEVICE

The patent application describes a placement tray that can be moved between open and closed states in relation to a device main body. The tray has a surface for placing a medium, edge guides to keep the sides of the medium in place, and a link member that supports the tray in the open position. The edge guide includes a movable section that can switch between a reclined posture and an upright posture, as well as an operation section that remains fixed against the placement surface and can be operated. The operation section overlaps with the movable section but not with the link member when viewed from the width direction perpendicular to the medium's transport direction.

  • The placement tray can be easily moved between open and closed states.
  • Edge guides ensure the medium stays in place on the tray.
  • The movable section of the edge guide can switch between reclined and upright postures.
  • The operation section can be operated and does not overlap with the link member.
  • The design allows for efficient and secure placement of the medium.

Potential Applications: - This technology could be used in printers or scanners to hold paper or other media securely in place. - It may find applications in packaging machinery to ensure precise placement of materials. - The design could be adapted for use in manufacturing processes where accurate positioning of components is crucial.

Problems Solved: - Ensures that the medium remains in the correct position during operation. - Provides stability and security for the medium being placed. - Allows for easy access to the medium when in the open state.

Benefits: - Improved accuracy and efficiency in handling media. - Enhanced safety and security during operation. - Simplified operation and maintenance of devices.

Commercial Applications: The technology could be valuable in industries such as printing, packaging, and manufacturing where precise placement of materials is essential for optimal performance and quality.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the movable section of the edge guide enhance the functionality of the placement tray? 2. What are the potential cost-saving benefits of implementing this technology in industrial settings?

Original Abstract Submitted

a placement tray which is displaceable to a closed state and an open state with respect to a device main body has a placement surface on which a medium is placed, edge guides that restrict side edges of the medium to be placed, and a link member that supports the placement tray in the open state. the edge guide has a movable section that pivotably switches between a non-use posture in which it reclines along the placement surface and a use posture in which it is upright against the placement surface, and an operation section that is fixed in posture against the placement surface and is operated. at least a part of the operation section is provided at a position that overlaps the movable section and does not overlap the link member as viewed from the width direction that intersects the transport direction f of the medium.
