DEVICE AND METHOD FOR SCANNING MEASUREMENT OF THE DISTANCE TO AN OBJECT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240230854 titled 'DEVICE AND METHOD FOR SCANNING MEASUREMENT OF THE DISTANCE TO AN OBJECT

Simplified Explanation:

The patent application describes a device that measures the distance to an object using a light source with varying frequency. A scanning device directs the measuring light in different directions, and a detector detects the superposition of reference and reflected light to determine the distance. A light sensor detects the scanning movement of the measuring light, and a switch-off device turns off the light source if no movement is detected.

Original Abstract Submitted

a device for scanning measurement of the distance to an object has a light source which generates an optical signal having a varying frequency. a scanning device directs measuring light in different directions. a detector detects a superposition of reference light and reflected light. an evaluation device determines a distance to the object from the superposition detected by the detector. a light sensor, which is arranged in the light path of the emitted measuring light behind the scanning device in such a way that it is exposed to the measuring light only once per scanning cycle, detects a scanning movement of the emitted measuring light. a switch-off device switches off the light source or otherwise prevents the emission of measuring light if the light sensor does not detect a scanning movement of the measuring light.
