DETERMINING RESERVOIR FORMATION FACIES - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240345280 titled 'DETERMINING RESERVOIR FORMATION FACIES
The patent application discusses techniques for determining facies of a subterranean reservoir by analyzing spectral gamma ray (SGR) logging data measured in a wellbore.
- Identification of logging data associated with specific minerals in different facies of the reservoir.
- Correlation of SGR logging data with mineral-specific logging data to determine boundaries between different facies.
- Preparation of graphical data for presentation on a graphical user interface (GUI) based on the determined boundaries.
Potential Applications: - Oil and gas exploration and production - Geologic studies and research - Reservoir characterization and modeling
Problems Solved: - Accurate identification and delineation of different facies in a subterranean reservoir. - Improved understanding of mineral distribution and composition within the reservoir.
Benefits: - Enhanced reservoir management and development strategies. - Increased efficiency in resource extraction. - Better decision-making based on detailed facies analysis.
Commercial Applications: Title: "Advanced Facies Determination Technology for Subterranean Reservoirs" This technology can be utilized by oil and gas companies, geoscience consulting firms, and research institutions for reservoir evaluation and development planning.
Questions about Facies Determination Technology: 1. How does this technology improve the accuracy of facies identification in subterranean reservoirs? 2. What are the key advantages of using SGR logging data for facies analysis in comparison to other methods?
Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on the latest advancements in SGR logging technology and mineral identification techniques for reservoir characterization.
Original Abstract Submitted
techniques for determining facies of a subterranean reservoir include identifying spectral gamma ray (sgr) logging data measured with an sgr logging tool in a wellbore that extends from a terranean surface into a subterranean reservoir included of a plurality of facies that include at least a first facies and a second facies; identifying logging data associated with a particular mineral in at least one of the plurality of facies measured with a logging tool in the wellbore; correlating the sgr logging data with the logging data associated with the particular mineral across the plurality of facies of the subterranean formation; determining a boundary between the first facies and the second facies based on the correlation; and preparing graphical data associated with the determined boundary between the first and second facies for presentation on a graphical user interface (gui).
