ASSEMBLY AND GRIPPER USED THEREIN - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240254856 titled 'ASSEMBLY AND GRIPPER USED THEREIN
Simplified Explanation: The assembly described in the patent application consists of a downhole tool and a gripper. The downhole tool is designed to be placed in a wellbore and then milled after a specific period. The gripper, positioned opposite the first end of the tool, includes a slider and an activator. The activator can be moved by the downhole tool relative to the slider, activating or deactivating the gripper as needed.
- The assembly includes a downhole tool and a gripper.
- The downhole tool is set in a wellbore and milled after a scheduled period.
- The gripper, positioned opposite the first end of the tool, consists of a slider and an activator.
- The activator can be moved by the downhole tool to activate or deactivate the gripper.
- The gripper engages with the wellbore wall to prevent rotation of the downhole tool.
Potential Applications: 1. Oil and gas drilling operations. 2. Wellbore completion and intervention. 3. Geothermal drilling projects.
Problems Solved: 1. Preventing unwanted rotation of downhole tools. 2. Ensuring secure placement in the wellbore. 3. Facilitating efficient milling processes.
Benefits: 1. Enhanced safety during drilling operations. 2. Improved tool longevity. 3. Streamlined wellbore maintenance procedures.
Commercial Applications: The technology can be utilized in the oil and gas industry for drilling and completion operations, offering increased efficiency and safety measures.
Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the gripper prevent the downhole tool from rotating in the wellbore? 2. What are the potential cost savings associated with using this assembly in drilling operations?
Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on advancements in downhole tool technology and wellbore maintenance practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of drilling operations.
Original Abstract Submitted
an assembly comprises a downhole tool and a gripper. the downhole tool is configured to be set in a wellbore and milled after a scheduled period, wherein the downhole tool has a first tool end and a second tool end along a longitudinal direction. the gripper is positioned opposite the first tool end along the longitudinal direction, wherein the gripper comprises a slider and an activator. the activator is configured to be moved by the downhole tool relative to the slider between an inactivated position and an activated position when the downhole tool is milled from the second tool end. the slider remains unmoved when the activator is in the inactivated position, and the slider moves radially to engage with an internal wall of the wellbore and stop the downhole tool from rotation when the activator is in the activated position.
