METHOD FOR DETECTING FALL OF USER AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE SUPPORTING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240321075 titled 'METHOD FOR DETECTING FALL OF USER AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE SUPPORTING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation: The electronic device described in the patent application can detect if a user wearing the device is in a standing posture and differentiate between the main device and a connected external device. It can gather information about a user's fall and receive additional fall-related data from the external device. By assigning different weights to the collected information, the device can accurately detect a user's fall.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Ability to determine user's posture and differentiate between main and external devices
  • Collection of fall-related information and data exchange with external devices
  • Weight assignment to collected data for accurate fall detection

Potential Applications: This technology can be used in:

  • Wearable devices for fall detection and emergency response
  • Healthcare monitoring systems for elderly or patients at risk of falls
  • Sports and fitness trackers for injury prevention

Problems Solved:

  • Accurate detection of user falls
  • Seamless communication between main and external devices
  • Enhanced safety and emergency response capabilities

Benefits:

  • Improved user safety and well-being
  • Quick and efficient response to falls
  • Enhanced connectivity and data exchange between devices

Commercial Applications: Potential commercial applications include:

  • Medical alert systems
  • Fitness and activity trackers
  • Smart home automation for safety monitoring

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the device differentiate between the main and external electronic devices? 2. What measures are in place to ensure the accuracy of fall detection?

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on advancements in fall detection technology, wearable devices, and healthcare monitoring systems for the latest developments in this field.

Original Abstract Submitted

an electronic device includes: a communication circuit; a first sensor; a processor; and memory storing instructions that cause the electronic device to: determine whether a user wearing the electronic device is in a standing posture; determine that the electronic device is a main electronic device and an external electronic device connected to the electronic device is a sub electronic device, based on determining that the user is in the standing posture; obtain first information related to a fall of the user; receive, from the external electronic device through the communication circuit, second information related to the fall of the user. the second information is obtained by the external electronic device; and detect the fall of the user, by applying a first weight to the first information and by applying a second weight corresponding to the sub electronic device. the second weight is lower than the first weight.
