DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240341606 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

The patent application describes a display device that includes display pixels and light sensing pixels arranged in a display panel. The device is capable of measuring a user's biometric information using light sensing signals provided by the light sensing pixels.

  • Display pixels emit light under the control of a display scan driver.
  • Light sensing pixels sense light under the control of a light sensing scan driver.
  • A main driving circuit measures the user's biometric information using the light sensing signals.
  • The main driving circuit can sense the user's touch area during biometric information measurement.
  • The device sets a biometric information measurement area and conditions based on the shape of the touch area and touch area information.

Potential Applications: - Biometric authentication in display devices - Health monitoring through biometric data measurement

Problems Solved: - Efficient and accurate measurement of biometric information - Seamless integration of biometric sensors into display panels

Benefits: - Enhanced security through biometric authentication - Convenient health monitoring for users

Commercial Applications: Title: Biometric Display Devices for Enhanced Security and Health Monitoring This technology can be used in smartphones, tablets, and other electronic devices to provide secure access control and health monitoring features.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the device differentiate between touch areas for biometric measurement and regular touch input? - The device uses touch area information to distinguish between biometric measurement areas and regular touch input areas. 2. Can the device measure multiple users' biometric information simultaneously? - The device is designed to measure the biometric information of one user at a time.

Original Abstract Submitted

a display device including: display pixels arranged in a display area of a display panel; light sensing pixels arranged in the display area; a display scan driver configured to cause the display pixels to emit light; a light sensing scan driver configured to cause the light sensing pixels to sense light; and a main driving circuit configured to measure a user's biometric information by using light sensing signals provided from the light sensing pixels, wherein the main driving circuit senses the user's touch area when the user's biometric information is measured, and sets a biometric information measurement area and a measurement condition, which includes an emission color and an emission luminance, according to a shape of a sensed touch area and touch area information to measure the user's biometric information.
