HETEROGENEOUS ON-VEHICLE CAMERA SYSTEM FOR OBJECT DETECTION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240221392 titled 'HETEROGENEOUS ON-VEHICLE CAMERA SYSTEM FOR OBJECT DETECTION

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes systems and methods to improve vehicle object detection by using multiple sensors with overlapping fields of view and a processor to enhance image processing techniques.

  • The vehicle includes a first sensor with a polarizer and a second sensor, both coupled with the vehicle body.
  • The first and second sensors capture images with overlapping fields of view.
  • A processor receives and analyzes the images to determine a luminance of light ratio and adjust image processing techniques accordingly.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Utilization of multiple sensors with overlapping fields of view.
  • Integration of a polarizer in the first sensor for improved image quality.
  • Processor-based analysis of images to enhance object detection capabilities.

Potential Applications:

  • Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
  • Autonomous vehicles.
  • Traffic monitoring and management systems.

Problems Solved:

  • Enhancing vehicle object detection accuracy.
  • Improving image processing techniques for better identification of objects.
  • Increasing overall safety and efficiency of vehicles.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced object detection capabilities.
  • Improved accuracy in identifying objects.
  • Increased safety for drivers and pedestrians.

Commercial Applications: The technology can be applied in the automotive industry for the development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles, as well as in traffic management systems for improved safety and efficiency on the roads.

Questions about Vehicle Object Detection Enhancement: 1. How does the use of multiple sensors with overlapping fields of view improve object detection in vehicles? 2. What are the potential applications of this technology beyond the automotive industry?

Original Abstract Submitted

systems and methods to enhance vehicle object detection capability are provided. the vehicle may include a first sensor coupled with a body of the vehicle, the first sensor having a first field of view and the first sensor comprising a polarizer. the vehicle may include a second sensor coupled with the body of the vehicle, the second sensor having a second field of view. the first field of view and the second field of view can at least partially overlap. the vehicle may include a processor coupled with memory. the processor can receive a first image captured by the first sensor and a second image captured by the second sensor. the processor can determine a luminance of light ratio associated with the first image and the second image, and can modify an image processing technique.
