GENERATING A COMPOSITE IMAGE BASED ON REGIONS OF INTEREST - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240320792 titled 'GENERATING A COMPOSITE IMAGE BASED ON REGIONS OF INTEREST

Simplified Explanation: This patent application describes a method for generating a composite image using data from an array of photodiodes in an image sensor.

  • The method involves receiving data from the photodiodes representing the field of view and a region of interest within it.
  • The region of interest is smaller than the field of view and is captured by a subset of photodiodes.
  • A composite image is then generated based on the data received from both the field of view and the region of interest.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Utilizes data from an array of photodiodes to create a composite image.
  • Allows for capturing a specific region of interest within a larger field of view.
  • Enhances image quality and detail by combining data from different parts of the field of view.

Potential Applications:

  • Surveillance systems
  • Medical imaging devices
  • Photography and videography equipment

Problems Solved:

  • Enhances image quality by focusing on specific regions of interest.
  • Improves the efficiency of image processing by utilizing data from a subset of photodiodes.

Benefits:

  • Higher quality composite images
  • Enhanced detail and clarity in captured images
  • Improved efficiency in image processing

Commercial Applications: The technology could be used in various industries such as surveillance, medical imaging, and photography to improve image quality and efficiency in capturing specific areas of interest.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does this method improve image quality compared to traditional methods? 2. What are the potential limitations of using data from a subset of photodiodes for generating composite images?

Original Abstract Submitted

systems and techniques are described herein for generating a composite image. for instance, a method for generating a composite image is provided. the method may include receiving first data representative of an image of a field of view from an array of photodiodes of an image sensor; receiving second data representative of an image of a region of interest within the field of view from a subset of the array of photodiodes, wherein the region of interest is smaller than the field of view, wherein the subset of the array of photodiodes within the array of photodiodes corresponds to the region of interest within the field of view, and wherein the subset of the array of photodiodes includes fewer photodiodes than the array of photodiodes; and generating a composite image of the field of view based on the first data and the second data.
