various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. in some aspects, a distributed unit (du) associated with an integrated access and backhaul (iab)-node may transmit, and a central unit (cu) may receive, a restriction indication that indicates a restriction for a physical cell identifier (pci) configuration of a cell that is served by the du. the restriction indication may include, for example, one or more pci values that are not to be used for the pci configuration of the cell, and/or may include one or more pci values that are allowed to be used for the pci configuration of the cell. the cu may transmit, and the du may receive, a pci configuration of the cell that is in accordance with the restriction indication. numerous other aspects are described.
