DYNAMIC SELECTION OF POWER-EFFICIENT SIDE-LINK AIDED POSITIONING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240205827 titled 'DYNAMIC SELECTION OF POWER-EFFICIENT SIDE-LINK AIDED POSITIONING

The abstract of the patent application describes techniques for wireless communication, specifically focusing on changing power modes of user equipment (UE) based on the power saving requirements. When the UE switches to a power saving mode, it measures positioning reference signals (PRSS) from one transmission/reception point (TRP), while in normal power mode, it measures PRSS from two or more TRPs.

  • User equipment (UE) can change power modes to optimize power consumption.
  • In power saving mode, UE measures PRSS from one TRP, while in normal mode, it measures PRSS from multiple TRPs.
  • The innovation aims to improve power efficiency in wireless communication systems.

Potential Applications:

  • Wireless communication systems
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices
  • Mobile devices and smartphones

Problems Solved:

  • Power consumption optimization in wireless communication
  • Enhanced battery life for devices
  • Efficient use of resources in network communication

Benefits:

  • Extended battery life for devices
  • Improved network efficiency
  • Enhanced user experience with better connectivity

Commercial Applications:

  • Telecom companies for optimizing network performance
  • Device manufacturers for improving battery life
  • IoT companies for efficient data transmission

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the patent application address power consumption in wireless communication systems? 2. What are the potential benefits of switching between power modes in user equipment?

Frequently Updated Research: Research on power optimization techniques in wireless communication systems is continuously evolving to enhance network performance and user experience.

Original Abstract Submitted

disclosed are techniques for wireless communication. in an aspect, a user equipment (ue) may determine to change a power mode of the ue to a new power mode. the ue may change the power mode of the ue to the new power mode, wherein if the new power mode comprises a power saving mode, the ue measures positioning reference signals (prss) from one transmission/reception point (trp), and wherein if the new power mode is a normal power mode, the ue measures prss from two or more trps.
