ENHANCEMENTS TO PDCCH SKIPPING WITH DUMMY GRANTS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240163898 titled 'ENHANCEMENTS TO PDCCH SKIPPING WITH DUMMY GRANTS

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) where the UE receives downlink control information (DCI) indicating actions such as skipping physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) monitoring or extending connected discontinuous reception (CDRX) active time. The DCI may include skip indications, retransmission scheduling, different downlink/uplink assignment sizes, and skipping transmission of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback.

  • Explanation of the patent/innovation:
   - UE receives DCI for skipping PDCCH monitoring or extending CDRX active time
   - DCI includes skip indications, retransmission scheduling, different assignment sizes, and skipping HARQ feedback
  • Potential applications of this technology:
   - Enhanced wireless communication efficiency
   - Improved resource allocation in wireless networks
  • Problems solved by this technology:
   - Efficient utilization of network resources
   - Enhanced UE performance in wireless communication systems
  • Benefits of this technology:
   - Reduced interference and improved signal quality
   - Enhanced UE battery life through optimized communication protocols
  • Potential commercial applications of this technology:
   - Telecom equipment manufacturers
   - Mobile network operators
  • Possible prior art:
   - Prior art may include patents related to wireless communication protocols and resource allocation in cellular networks.
  1. Unanswered Questions:
    1. How does this method impact battery life in UEs?

The abstract does not specifically address the impact of this method on UE battery life. Further research or testing may be needed to determine the effect on battery consumption.

    1. What are the potential challenges in implementing this method in existing wireless networks?

The abstract does not discuss potential challenges in implementing this method in current wireless networks. Factors such as network compatibility and software updates may need to be considered during implementation.

Original Abstract Submitted

a method for wireless communication at a user equipment (ue) and related apparatus are provided. in the method, the ue receives downlink control information (dci) indicating for the ue to skip physical downlink control channel (pdcch) monitoring or to extend a connected discontinuous reception (cdrx) active time. the dci includes one or more of a skip indication, scheduling for a retransmission of a successfully decoded physical downlink shared channel (pdsch), a non-zero downlink assignment with a downlink retransmission transport block (tb) size that is different than an initial downlink transmission tb size, or a non-zero uplink assignment with an uplink retransmission tb size that is different than an initial uplink transmission tb size. the ue further skips transmission of hybrid automatic repeat request (harq) feedback for the dci.
