ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING PROCESS AND PRODUCT OBTAINABLE THROUGH THE PROCESS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240261862 titled 'ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING PROCESS AND PRODUCT OBTAINABLE THROUGH THE PROCESS

The abstract describes an additive manufacturing process for creating a solid body with a predefined outer surface. Here is a simplified explanation of the patent application:

  • Select a volume portion of the solid body.
  • Create a 3D model of the solid body with the selected volume portion independently modeled.
  • Transfer the model to the additive manufacturing machine.
  • Operate the machine to produce the solid body with the predefined outer surface.

Key Features and Innovation: - Independent modeling of selected volume portion. - Additive manufacturing process for creating solid bodies with predefined outer surfaces.

Potential Applications: - Customized manufacturing of complex solid bodies. - Prototyping and rapid production of parts with specific outer surface requirements.

Problems Solved: - Efficient production of solid bodies with complex outer surfaces. - Customization of solid bodies based on specific volume portions.

Benefits: - Enhanced design flexibility. - Improved manufacturing efficiency. - Cost-effective production of customized parts.

Commercial Applications: - Customized product manufacturing for various industries. - Prototyping and small-scale production of specialized parts.

Prior Art: Research in additive manufacturing processes for creating complex solid bodies.

Frequently Updated Research: Ongoing advancements in additive manufacturing technologies for improved solid body production.

Questions about Additive Manufacturing Process: 1. How does the independent modeling of volume portions contribute to the efficiency of the manufacturing process? 2. What are the potential limitations of using additive manufacturing for creating solid bodies with predefined outer surfaces?

Original Abstract Submitted

an additive manufacturing process for manufacturing a solid body designed to be delimited by a predefined outer surface includes selecting at least one volume portion of the solid body, preparing a three-dimensional model of the solid body by means of a computer, in which the selected volume portion is modelled independently of the rest of the solid body, supplying the model in a suitable data interface format to the processing unit of an additive manufacturing machine, and operating the additive manufacturing machine for producing the solid body according to the model, thus obtaining the predefined outer surface.
