SURFACE PROTECTION LAYERS OBTAINED BY ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240279445 titled 'SURFACE PROTECTION LAYERS OBTAINED BY ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING

The present invention pertains to a composition containing 60 to 100% by weight of a polyolefin or polyolefin blend with specific properties for temporary protection in additive manufacturing.

  • Polyolefin or polyolefin blend with a density between 0.85 and 0.92 g/cm³
  • Melt flow index between 5.0 and 20.0 g/10 min
  • Shore A hardness between 70 and 90
  • Flexural modulus greater than 10 MPa

Potential Applications: - Temporary protection of objects or articles in additive manufacturing processes

Problems Solved: - Provides a protective coating for objects during the additive manufacturing process - Ensures the integrity of the objects during production

Benefits: - Prevents damage to objects during manufacturing - Facilitates the production process by offering temporary protection

Commercial Applications: - This composition can be used in 3D printing and other additive manufacturing techniques to protect objects during production, ensuring their quality and integrity.

Questions about the Composition: 1. How does the specific density range of 0.85 to 0.92 g/cm³ benefit the temporary protection of objects in additive manufacturing? 2. What role does the flexural modulus greater than 10 MPa play in ensuring the integrity of objects during the manufacturing process?

Frequently Updated Research: - Stay informed about the latest developments in polyolefin compositions for temporary protection in additive manufacturing to optimize production processes and object quality.

Original Abstract Submitted

the present invention relates to a composition comprising 60 to 100% by weight of a polyolefin or polyolefin blend having a density between 0.85 and 0.92 g/cm, a melt flow index between 5.0, 20.0 g/10 min, a shore a hardness between 70 and 90 and a flexural modulus greater than 10 mpa. such a composition is useful for the temporary protection of objects or articles using the additive manufacturing technique.
