LARYNGEAL ELEVATION MEASUREMENT DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240298958 titled 'LARYNGEAL ELEVATION MEASUREMENT DEVICE

The abstract describes a laryngeal elevation measurement device that includes sensors and a control unit to estimate positional changes of the laryngeal prominence of a test subject.

  • The device has first and second displacement sensors that are attached to the neck of the test subject at a predetermined distance from each other.
  • The control unit acquires displacement amounts from the sensors and estimates changes in the laryngeal prominence based on these measurements over time.
  • The output of the control unit provides the result of the estimation.

Potential Applications: - Speech therapy - Swallowing disorders diagnosis - Voice training

Problems Solved: - Accurate measurement of laryngeal elevation - Monitoring changes in laryngeal position over time

Benefits: - Non-invasive measurement - Real-time monitoring - Precise estimation of laryngeal movements

Commercial Applications: Title: "Innovative Laryngeal Elevation Measurement Device for Speech Therapy and Swallowing Disorders Diagnosis" This technology can be used in medical facilities, speech therapy clinics, and research institutions to improve the diagnosis and treatment of swallowing disorders and speech-related conditions.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the device compare to traditional methods of measuring laryngeal elevation?

  - The device offers a non-invasive and real-time measurement approach, unlike traditional methods that may be more invasive or less accurate.

2. What are the potential implications of using this device in voice training programs?

  - This device can provide valuable feedback on laryngeal movements during voice exercises, enhancing the effectiveness of voice training programs.

Original Abstract Submitted

a laryngeal elevation measurement device is provided that includes first and second displacement sensors and a control unit. the first displacement sensor is attachable to a neck of a test subject. the second displacement sensor attachable to a site that is part of the neck of the test subject and that is located at a predetermined distance from the first displacement sensor. the control unit acquires the displacement amounts of the first and second displacement sensors. the control unit estimates positional changes of the laryngeal prominence of the test subject based on changes over time in the displacement amount of the first displacement sensor and changes over time in the displacement amount of the second displacement sensor, and the predetermined distance. the control unit outputs a result of estimation.
