MULTI-MODE SENSOR ASSEMBLY FOR LIGHT DETECTION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240214709 titled 'MULTI-MODE SENSOR ASSEMBLY FOR LIGHT DETECTION

The abstract describes a multi-mode sensor assembly consisting of a first die with color pixels and sparse pixels, arranged to form macro pixels, and a second die with an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) array connected to the sparse pixels.

  • The sensor assembly includes a first die with color pixels and sparse pixels, and a second die with an ADC array.
  • Color pixels and sparse pixels are organized into macro pixels, each containing a subset of color pixels and sparse pixels.
  • The ADC array in the second die is linked to the sparse pixels, with each subset having a corresponding ADC.

Potential Applications: - Image sensors in digital cameras - Medical imaging devices - Automotive cameras for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)

Problems Solved: - Improved image quality and resolution - Efficient data conversion from analog to digital - Enhanced performance in low-light conditions

Benefits: - Higher quality images with accurate color representation - Reduced noise and improved signal processing - Enhanced functionality in various lighting conditions

Commercial Applications: Title: "Advanced Image Sensor Technology for Enhanced Visual Capture" This technology can be utilized in consumer electronics, medical devices, automotive systems, and surveillance cameras. The market implications include improved product performance, increased customer satisfaction, and potential cost savings for manufacturers.

Questions about Multi-Mode Sensor Assembly: 1. How does the integration of color pixels and sparse pixels improve image quality? 2. What advantages does the ADC array in the second die offer in terms of data conversion efficiency?

Original Abstract Submitted

a multi-mode sensor assembly is described. the sensor assembly includes a first die and a second die. the first die includes a pixel array composed of color pixels that detect light in one or more color channels and sparse pixels. the color pixels and the sparse pixels are arranged to form macro pixels, and each macro pixel includes a respective subset of the color pixels and a respective subset of the sparse pixels. the second die is positioned below and coupled to the first die. the second die includes an analog-to-digital converter (adc) array that is communicatively coupled to the sparse pixels such that each subset of the sparse pixels has a single corresponding adc in the adc array.
