DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240244876 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

The abstract describes a display device with a unique structure including a transistor, planarization layer, anode electrode, bank, organic layer, cathode electrode, and capping layer with varying refractive indices.

  • The display device consists of a transistor positioned above a substrate.
  • A planarization layer is located above the transistor, with an anode electrode in an open area on the layer.
  • A bank covers part of the anode electrode and has a corresponding open area for the organic layer.
  • The organic layer is on the exposed anode electrode, with a cathode electrode on top.
  • A capping layer above the cathode electrode consists of three layers with different refractive indices.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be used in the manufacturing of high-quality display screens for electronic devices. - It may find applications in the development of advanced visual technologies for augmented reality and virtual reality systems.

Problems Solved: - Provides a more efficient and effective display device structure. - Enhances the optical performance of the display screen.

Benefits: - Improved display quality and resolution. - Enhanced brightness and contrast levels. - Increased durability and longevity of the display device.

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Display Technology for Enhanced Visual Experiences This technology can be utilized in the production of smartphones, tablets, laptops, televisions, and other electronic devices requiring high-quality display screens. The market implications include increased consumer interest in devices with superior visual performance.

Questions about Display Device Technology: 1. How does the varying refractive indices in the capping layer contribute to the overall display quality?

The different refractive indices help in reducing reflections and improving light transmission, resulting in enhanced image clarity.

2. What are the potential cost implications of implementing this display technology in mass-produced electronic devices?

The cost may initially be higher due to the advanced materials and manufacturing processes involved, but economies of scale could eventually lower production costs.

Original Abstract Submitted

a display device includes a transistor above a substrate, a planarization layer above the transistor and having a first open area, an anode electrode in the first open area as well as a side portion and a part of a top surface of the planarization layer opposite to the first open area, a bank covering a part of the anode electrode and having a second open area corresponding to the first open area, an organic layer on the anode electrode exposed by the second open area, a cathode electrode on the organic layer, and a capping layer above the cathode electrode and including a first capping layer having a first refractive index, a second capping layer having a second refractive index, and a third capping layer having a third refractive index. the first refractive index and the third refractive index are relatively lower than the second refractive index.
